At Bath Experts, we believe in giving back to those who have given so much to us. For the past few years, our participation in “Baths For The Brave” has been more than a gesture of corporate responsibility; it has been a heartfelt endeavor, aligning with our values to honor and support our nation’s heroes. This Veterans Day, we’re proud to highlight the stories of three exceptional veterans who recently received safe, accessible bathing spaces through this program. Each story serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have served and the impact we can have in helping them lead safer, more independent lives.

Douglas Pirolozzi, U.S. Navy Veteran (1976-1980)

Douglas Pirolozzi, from Vine Grove, KY, served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Sterett CG 31 stationed in San Diego. His service placed him off the coasts of Iran and Yemen during the tense periods of the late 1970s. As a Damage Control Specialist, Douglas recalls many intense experiences, including a memorable encounter catching sharks using grappling hooks and beef roast – a unique story that only military life could provide. Retired due to knee and heart issues, Douglas was grateful to be selected for Baths For The Brave, which has given him and his family a safe, accessible bathroom space, allowing him more comfort and independence in his daily life.

Jonathan Hood, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran (1987-1989)

Jonathan Hood, originally from Akron, OH, served with the U.S. Marine Corps and took part in Desert Storm. Stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, Jonathan’s responsibilities included guarding nuclear weapons – a task requiring the utmost dedication and vigilance. Jonathan found a tremendous sense of relief and honor in being selected for Baths For The Brave, as this new setup has made it easier for him and his family to navigate the bathroom safely, reducing the risk of injuries from stepping over a traditional tub. Jonathan’s story is a testament to the courage and commitment of those who safeguard our nation under the most demanding conditions.

Ivan E. LyaII, U.S. Army Veteran (1959-1960)

Ivan E. LyaII from Waterloo, OH, served in the U.S. Army, completing basic training at Ft. Benning, GA, and MP training at Ft. Gordon, GA. His military journey took him to Bell Isle, MI, where he was stationed as a guard at a top-secret missile site. After an accomplished career in civilian roles across multiple industries, Ivan is now retired. Being selected for Baths For The Brave meant “the world” to him, giving him the opportunity to regain independence in his daily routines. This small yet significant improvement has had a profound impact on his quality of life.
